Strasburg scoreless inning string ends at 35 (Nats win 7-1)

The Dodgers found a way to score a run off of Stephen Strasburg in the second inning. Yasiel Puig singled and stole second base. With two outs, Logan Forsythe's drive went off the glove of Michael A. Taylor in deep center field for a double. Puig scored. The Dodgers lead 1-0.

Strasburg's franchise-record 34 scoreless innings ends at 35.

The Nationals managed two base hits off of left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu in the second inning to try to plate the equalizer. But Taylor struck out and Matt Wieters grounded back to Ryu to end the inning.

After two innings, the Dodgers lead the Nationals 1-0.

Update: In the fifth, the Nats drew a pair of walks, one to Strasburg and the other by Trea Turner. Those walks chased Ryu. Reliever Ross Stripling arrived with two outs to face Jayson Werth. Werth appeared to line a double down the left field line that was called foul by third base umpire and crew chief Gary Cederstrom. A video review requested by the Nationals did not overturn the call. Werth flew out to center field to end the inning. The Nats Park crowd was less than pleased with the call.

Ryu went 4 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

After five innings, the Dodgers still lead 1-0.

Update II: In the sixth, the Nats offense broke out of their recent slump. Anthony Rendon walked and Murphy singled. Ryan Zimmerman then took a 3-1 slider by Stripling and deposited it over the right-center field wall to score three runs. It was his 32nd homer of the season.

Strasburg finished six innings, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. He threw 94 pitches, 54 for strikes.

After six innings, the Nats have their first lead of the series, 3-1.

Update III: The Nats added some insurance in the seventh. After Walker Buehler struck out the first two batters he faced, Werth worked a walk. Rendon doubled to score Werth from first base.

After seven innings, the Nats lead the Dodgers 4-1.

Update IV: Zimmerman hit his second homer of the game leading off the eighth. His 33rd homer of the season matches a career-high total from 2009. Adam Lind added a pinch-hit two-run homer. His fourth pinch-hit homer of the season is a franchise record for the Nats in a season and the most by any Nats pinch-hitter since 2005.

After eight innings, the Nats lead the Dodgers 7-1.

Update V: Sean Doolittle allowed a single and a walk in the ninth, but was able to retire the side.
