Right-hander Stephen Strasburg, listed as the starter for tonight's series opener in Miami, has been scratched and placed on the 10-day disabled list with cervical nerve impingement. The move is retroactive to July 22.
Additionally, the Nats designated infielder José Marmolejos for assignment.
Left-hander Tommy Milone has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse to make tonight's start. The Nats are in Miami through Sunday for a critical four-game series.
In Milwaukee, Strasburg went through Monday's bullpen session as scheduled. He worked out each day at Miller Park and was at his locker cubicle as normal during pregame and postgame. Strasburg struggled in his first start back from the disabled list in a loss Friday night against the Braves. He lasted only 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.
After he was pulled, he appeared to get into a heated conversation with Max Scherzer in the dugout. The pair retired to the clubhouse to continue the conversation.
Strasburg, 30, is 6-7 with a 3.90 ERA this season, with 101 strikeouts and 21 walks over 14 starts. This will be his second stay on the disabled list this season. Right shoulder inflammation put Strasburg on the DL from June 9 to July 20.
Strasburg was 7-0 with a 1.13 ERA in his last seven starts against the Marlins, and has a current 23-inning scoreless streak against them.
Milone, 31, has gone 7-4 with a 4.19 ERA in Triple-A and started five games for the Nats in 2011. Since then, he has pitched for the Rangers, Twins, Brewers and Mets from 2012 to 2017.
The Nationals have placed third baseman Anthony Rendon on the Paternity List. The club will make a corresponding move prior to tonight's game.
