Suns' Harper, Senators' Gilbert grab Player of the Week honors

Good news from the offensive side of the ball in the minor leagues as outfielders Archie Gilbert and Bryce Harper have been named Player of the Week in their respective leagues for the week of May 2-8. This is the first such honor in Single-A Hagerstown for Harper, who was the 2010 Golden Spikes Award winner for best amateur player in the country. Gilbert is a two-time minor league All-star and was Texas League player if the week for almost the same seven days last season (May 3, 2010). From Nationals PR: "Gilbert earned the Double-A Eastern League award after batting .348 (8-for-23) with five home runs, six RBIs, eight runs scored, three walks, 2two stolen bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage in six games. Gilbert ended his award-winning week by posting consecutive two-homer games over the weekend and leads the Eastern League in slugging. He ranks among league leaders in home runs (third with seven), OPS (third, .968) and runs scored (tied for eighth, 19)." "Harper hit .500 (12-for-24) with four doubles, one homer, four RBIs and five runs scored to earn South Atlantic League honors. The 18-year-old currently owns a 12-game hitting streak and in 28 games overall, he is hitting .371 with 11 doubles, seven homers, 24 RBIs and five stolen bases. Harper ranks among South Atlantic League leaders in OPS (second, 1.161), doubles, (tied for second), OBP (tied for second, .474), slugging (third, .701), home runs (tied for third) and RBIs (tied for third)." I will cover Hagerstown's game against Delmarva tomorrow morning, so I can give you an update on how Harper is doing at home.
