Tillman dealing like an ace (O's lose 2-0)

Orioles starter Chris Tillman has retired 11 Blue Jays in a row tonight since third baseman Jonathan Schoop committed his second throwing error in the top of the fourth inning. Tillman got a called third strike on Colby Rasmus to end the seventh with the Orioles still trailing 2-0. Tillman has allowed two unearned runs and two hits, walked one and struck out five. He's thrown 92 pitches, 54 for strikes. Dealing. No one is warming in the Orioles bullpen. I saw one guy stand up and stretch last inning, but he sat back down. Tillman has allowed two earned runs and 14 hits in 20 1/3 innings in his three starts this season, with three walks and 14 strikeouts. That's ace-like material, folks. The Orioles had a bunch of loud outs against Jays starter Dustin McGowan, who came out of the game in the seventh after hitting Ryan Flaherty on the elbow and retiring Schoop on a popup. I guess the Jays saw the stat about the Orioles being 3-0 when the opposing starter goes at least seven innings. University of Maryland product Brett Cecil struck out Nick Markakis and Delmon Young to end the seventh. The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth on consecutive singles by Markakis, Young and Chris Davis, but Adam Jones flied out. Third base coach Bobby Dickerson held Markakis on Davis' single to right, a decision he most likely regretted later. Jose Bautista made a poor throw and Markakis would have scored. Update: Ryan Webb replaced Tillman to start the ninth. Tillman allowed two unearned runs and three hits over eight innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches, 64 for strikes. He also retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced. Tillman has surrendered two earned runs in 21 1/3 innings this season, but he may get saddled with the loss tonight. Update II: Jays closer Sergio Santos retires the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth inning, and the Orioles lose 2-0 before an announced crowd of 22,327 at Camden Yards. Tough loss for Tillman. Two unearned runs and his record falls to 1-1. He's got two quality starts in three outings.
