LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Mike Wright worked two scoreless innings this afternoon in the Orioles' exhibition opener against the Braves. He allowed a Freddie Freeman double in the first and struck out two batters, including former Oriole Nick Markakis.
Wright's fastball was clocked at 94-96 mph. He threw 19 pitches in the first inning, 13 for strikes, and eight pitches in the second, seven for strikes.
Ryan Flaherty singled and homered in his first two at-bats. The home run was an opposite-field shot off Danny Burawa leading off the third inning. Christian Walker added a two-run shot in the same inning, giving him three RBIs on the day.
The right side of the infield has been potent today.
The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Flaherty's leadoff single, Jimmy Paredes' one-out double and Walker's sacrifice fly.
Flaherty also had an infield hit and a bunt single in two intrasquad games. The man is on fire.
Paredes' double went to the opposite field against Braves right-hander Williams Perez. He also reached on an infield hit in the third, though the official scorer was being kind. Second baseman Jace Peterson should have been charged with an error after ranging up the middle and bobbling the ball.
Henry Urrutia doubled over the head of left fielder Hector Olivera in the second inning. Paul Janish lined a single into center field in the fourth and stole second base.
Hyun Soo Kim flied out to shallow left field and grounded out to first base in his first two at-bats. The Braves shifted their infield against him.
Tyler Wilson stranded two runners in the third after allowing a single to Matt Tuiasosopo and a double to Erick Aybar. He struck out Freeman to escape the jam.
Wilson threw 19 pitches, 11 for strikes. Chris Lee replaced him in the fourth with the Orioles leading 4-0.
