Urrutia, Gamboa honored by organization, O's take lead in eighth (O's win 4-2)

The Orioles have chosen outfielder Henry Urrutia as their minor league Player of the Month and knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa as their Pitcher of the Month for June. Hard to argue with those choices. Urrutia moved up to Triple-A Norfolk, where he's 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored tonight to leave his average at .238 with the Tides. He batted .365/.433/.550 with 16 doubles, seven homers and 37 RBIs in 52 games with Double-A Bowie to earn the promotion. In the month of June, Urrutia hit .391 with four home runs and 18 RBI between Bowie and Norfolk. Executive vice president Dan Duquette wants to get Urrutia to the majors this season, and it's more likely to happen with Wilson Betemit still not cleared to play in games while recovering from a Grade 2/3 tear in the PCL in his right knee. Urrutia's left-handed bat would fit as a designated hitter. Gamboa threw a seven-inning no-hitter in his last start for Bowie after allowing only one hit in 7 1/3 innings in his previous outing. Gamboa also tossed seven scoreless innings in a June 12 start, allowing only three hits. Chris Davis followed up on his solo home run tonight with a two-run, tie-breaking double off Matt Thornton in the eighth inning. Both runs are charged to former Orioles reliever Matt Lindstrom, who left two inherited runners for Thornton. Davis has 83 RBIs, which is pretty good for July 3. He's batting .331 with 26 doubles and 32 home runs. Darren O'Day allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth inning after replacing Scott Feldman. Update: Tommy Hunter retired the White Sox in order in the bottom of the eighth, throwing only 10 pitches. Hunter's ERA is down to 1.96. He ranks high on the list of biggest surprises and contributors for 2013. Update II: The Orioles are 11 games above .500 again with tonight's 4-2 win over the White Sox. Jim Johnson earned his 29th save, and the 101st of his career to break a tie with Stu Miller for third in Orioles history. Tippy Martinez is second with 105. Johnson gave up back-to-back singles with one out before escaping the jam. He's allowed at least one hit in five of his last six outings, but he's been scored upon only once. The Orioles have the most road wins in the majors (69) since the start of the 2012 season.
