Coming into Tuesday evening's game against the Red Sox, the Orioles had eight walk-off victories on the season. Two of them had come a la Chris Davis walk-off homer.
The first came exactly a month ago before last evening's game, a huge home run to lift the O's past the A's with a 4-3 victory, giving the Birds their second straight walk-off win.
Then, on Sept. 2, the Orioles were battling the Rays in extra innings. In the 11th, Davis worked into a 3-0 count before deposting in the ball into the seats below the Jumbotron. O's win 7-6.
So, when the O's and Red Sox were playing into the late hours of the night yesterday, who better to come to the plate than Davis?
The 13th inning of a 5-5 game began with Gerardo Parra's leadoff walk. On a Manny Machado single, Parra's heads-up baserunning put the winning run on third base.
After a pitching change, Davis stepped to the plate. Instead of his normal walk-off in homer style, Davis delivered just what the Orioles needed in a walk-off RBI single.
Game over. The Orioles now have nine walk-off victories this season. Credit Davis with three.
