The Yankees scored 12 runs in the first inning of Game 2.
Then they added those all-important tack-on runs.
Their lead has grown to 16-1 as we head to the top of the sixth inning. Slightly awkward.
Zach Britton allowed nine runs (six earned) and seven hits in one-third of an inning. Jason Berken gave up seven runs and eight hits in 2 2/3 innings. Chris Jakubauskas allowed three hits in the fourth without a run scoring.
Jakubauskas retired the side in order in the fifth. He's got my vote for Player of the Game.
Jake Arrieta starts tomorrow. I guess Mark Hendrickson is the long man, unless Britton wants to treat tonight's start like a side session.
Down on the farm, Jake Fox hit his ninth home run tonight for Triple-A Norfolk. Matt Angle is starting in center field after leaving Wednesday's game with a sprained left wrist.
Double-A Bowie's Zach Clark shut out New Britain on one hit over five innings.
Single-A Frederick's Kipp Schutz is 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Manny Machado is 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored.
Short-season Single-A Aberdeen pitcher Jacob Cowan shut out Mahoning Valley on two hits over six innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.
UPDATE: The Orioles made tonight's trade official. Koji Uehara and cash to the Rangers for first baseman Chris Davis and pitcher Tommy Hunter.
And Vladimir Guerrero has homered again tonight. Yankees 16, Orioles 2 in the sixth.
Put on your rally caps.
