Zimmermann set for 2nd rehab start Thursday in Frederick

Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann gets his second rehab start of the summer for the Potomac Nationals at the Frederick Keys Thursday afternoon at 12 noon from Harry Grove Stadium.
Zimmermann is expecting to pitch three innings as he makes gradual steps to returning to the majors since Tommy John surgery repaired his right elbow in August of last season.
He hurled two scoreless innings Saturday for Potomac in their victory over Wilmington, allowing two hits, no runs and no walks. He ended up throwing 35 pitches, with 10 of those in the bullpen session following 25 pitches, 16 for strikes in the first two innings.
Zimmermann hit 94 miles per hour regularly in the game with his fastball, once hitting 95 MPH. Jordan told me he expects to go up to four innings in his next start and then five innings in the following start.
With the P-Nats headed to Fenway Park for a special game July 10, ZImmermann will remain in D.C. during the break and workout with the Nationals staff.
