A closer look at the hitters (w-Hobgood note)

It's no great secret that many Orioles are struggling at the bat right now and have most of the year. With the exceptions of Ty Wigginton (five homers his last seven games) and Nick Markakis (.310 his last seven games), most of the others are in droughts right now. Here's a rundown: Garrett Atkins: Is just 4 for 26 over his last seven 7 games and is 0 for 11 vs. left-handed pitching. Cesar Izturis: 0 RBI his last 10 games. Adam Jones: Has three hits his last 18 at bats and is 0 for 7 with RISP. Just 1 RBI his last 13 games. Julio Lugo: Just one hit his last 13 at bats. Nolan Reimold: In a 3 for 23 slump and 1 for 11 with RISP. Luke Scott: Is 1 for 11 the last three games. Matt Wieters: Just 1 RBI his last 10 games and is 1 for 12 with RISP. The O's have scored just 31 runs in their 12 losses. On the other hand, Atkins is 5 for 7 in his career vs. Jason Vargas, who starts for Seattle tonight, with two homers and 4 RBI. Scott and Reimold are 2 for 6 with one career homer vs. Vargas. By the way, Matt Hobgood had his best start yet for Delmarva at home tonight vs. Greensboro. He pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just two hits. He walked one and fanned six and his three-start ERA is down to 2.70. Earlier this afternoon, Frederick won 6-1 at Potomac to improve to 8-4 with four wins in a row. Ryan O'Shea got the win as three Keys pitchers combined on a six-hitter while Buck Britton hit a two-run homer.
