A few notes on the Orioles' 8-1 win over the Nats

Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman pitched well again at home and for the second straight start, the Orioles backed him with some solid run support. Gausman went six scoreless innings tonight - his fourth scoreless start of 2016 - as the Orioles beat the Nationals 8-1 at Camden Yards.

The Orioles sweep this two-game series which now heads to Nats Park for the next two games. The Orioles are 69-56 overall, 42-22 at home and 10-5 versus the National League.

Adam Jones went 4-for-5, matching his career high in hits for the third time this year, and 19th in his career. Matt Wieters had two hits and two RBIs. Chris Davis hit a solo homer in the eighth, his 30th of the year. Davis' homer went 432 feet and he now has hit 30 or more homers in four of his last five seasons.

A few notes on tonight's win:

* After hitting two homers last night and 17 in their last five games, the Orioles went without a home run tonight until Davis connected in the eighth. They had hit two or more homers the last five games.

* In this series, the Orioles are 18-for-65 with 12 runs and have gone 7-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

* Gausman is suddenly getting some runs to work with. Through his first 20 starts of this seaon, his run support average of 3.64 per game was fifth-worst among American League starting pitchers. But in his start before tonight the O's beat Houston 13-5. They led that game 5-1 in the second inning and 7-2 after four. Tonight Gausman and the Orioles led 3-0 after two and 6-0 after three innings.

* Gausman is now 5-1 with an ERA of 2.48 in 10 home starts. The Orioles are 7-3 in those games and have won the last six Gausman home starts.

* After going eight games without a quality start now the Orioles have three in a row from Yovani Gallardo, Dylan Bundy and Gausman. They have pitched to an ERA of 2.37 in the three games.

* The Orioles went 3-for-3 on replay challenges tonight, all in the first three innings. Two involved caught stealings against Washington's Trea Turner, who was 14-for-15 stealing bases before tonight. The Orioles have now won 19 of 32 challenges on the year, that is 59.4 percent. The only other teams to win three challenges in a game this year were the Colorado Rockies on April 9 and the New York Mets on July 26.

When these teams play tomorrow night down I-95, lefty Wade Miley (7-10, 5.58 ERA) pitches against right-hander Tanner Roark (13-6, 2.87 ERA). Miley is 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA in four starts with the Orioles.
