The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first today at Kansas City. But the Royals came right back and got four off Chris Tillman in the last of the first to lead 4-1.
Nick Markakis singled in the first with one out and later scored on an Adam Jones single. It's Jones' 16th RBI. He now has eight hits over his past 15 at bats.
But the first three hitters reached for the Royals as they took the lead. Chris Getz led off with an infield single to short. Robert Andino double-clutched trying to get the ball out of his glove and that cost him an out and moments later, Getz stole second. Then Melky Cabrera singled to tie it and took second on the throw home. He scored when Alex Gordon singled to right, with a shot just out of the reach of Brian Roberts.
It got worse when Tillman left a pitch up that Wilson Betamit crushed for an RBI double and 3-1 lead. It got worse yet when Mike Aviles hit a pop to the left side that should have been as easy out. But Mark Reynolds and Robert Andino apparently lost it in the sun and it fell for a gift RBI hit and 4-1 edge.
The Orioles are looking to get back to .500 with a win today at 15-15. They were last at the .500 mark after Sunday's win when they were 13-13.
Kansas City had been outscored 24-9 in the openig inning this year until today.
