After rough ninth, can O's bounce back today in The Bronx?

The Toronto Blue Jays trailed 8-0 in the second inning last night. They were tied 9-9 in the ninth at Cincinnati. The Orioles led 3-1 with two outs in the ninth at New York.

An O's win and Toronto loss last night, and the Orioles would have been 1 1/2 games out of first place. Instead they begin play today 3 1/2 out after a Blue Jays rally and Orioles blown save.

Ouch. Tough reversal there.

The Orioles have seen this happen before in Yankee Stadium - both the old one and new one. As Zach Britton was one out away last night, you could sense this was not going to be easy as he walked a man and gave up an RBI single. Up came Carlos Beltran with his team trailing 3-2.

One swing later and "New York, New York" was blaring on the loudspeakers.

Beltran began last night with just eight hits in his last 43 at-bats. But now in four games against Baltimore pitching in 2014, he is 7-for-15 with three doubles, two homers and five RBIs. He has a 1.067 slugging percentage and 1.622 OPS against O's hurlers.

The blown lead and game kept us from talking more about T.J. McFarland. He faced six batters and retired all six on grounders last night. He has quietly put together a nice run of pitching with an ERA of 0.84 and .220 average against in 10 2/3 innings this month.

Before he gave up four runs in the ninth last night, Britton had allowed three earned runs in 37 2/3 innings for the season. His ERA went from 0.72 to 1.64. He'll have to prove he can bounce back from this tough game, but he might not get that chance today after throwing 27 pitches last night.

Meanwhile, it was another game of not much offense for the Orioles. They are now the only AL team to be no-hit through five innings three times this season.

They have now scored three runs or less in five of the last seven and eight of the last 14 games. They have gone 2-6 in those eight games.

Coming off a sweep of Toronto and now with a comeback walk-off win over the Orioles, the Yankees must be feeling pretty good about themselves today.

They have won eight of their last 10 and 10 of 14 games. The Orioles have to stop their momentum this afternoon or they will need to beat Masahiro Tanaka on Sunday to avoid a sweep.

Nothing left for the Orioles to do but regroup and look to beat on up a pitcher they face today with poor numbers. Lefty Vidal Nuno is 1-3 with a 5.90 ERA.

The Orioles won't have to wait long to try and put this loss behind them. Can they bounce back this afternoon in The Bronx?
