Chris Tillman gave up just three runs, all on solo homers, in six innings plus tonight at Tampa. He leaves trailing 3-0 and might absorb his first Major League loss.
But he pitched very well in this game and maybe had his best curveball of any of his five O's outings.
Tillman tonight: 6IP, 7H, 3R-ER, 2B, 3K.....101 pitches.
I thought he might not come out for the seventh inning, but I kind of liked the fact that he did, despite throwing 100 pitches through six. Dave Trembley showed confidence in him. He gave up a homer on the first pitch of the inning and then left the game. I still like the fact he was pushed a little and got into the 7th - if only for one pitch.
Over his last three starts, he has pitched to an ERA of 3.72. Over his first two Major League starts, his ERA was 6.75.
After throwing 31 pitches in the first tonight, Tillman needed just 69 over the next five frames.
Now if they could have just scored some runs for him.
