The August trade that sent reliever Matt Lindstrom and a player to be named later to the Diamondbacks for left-hander Joe Saunders and cash has been completed.
The teams couldn't agree on a PTBNL. The Orioles instead will send an undisclosed amount of cash to Arizona.
It's a done deal.
The PTBNL was supposed to be determined after the season. In the meantime, Saunders went 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in seven starts after the Aug. 26 trade and allowed two earned runs in 11 1/3 innings in the playoffs, winning the wild card game in Texas. Lindstrom permitted three runs and 10 hits in 10 2/3 innings over 12 appearances with the Diamondbacks. He walked two and struck out 10.
Saunders can become a free agent after the World Series. Lindstrom's contract includes a $4 million team option and $200,000 buyout. He's eligible for arbitration for the third season.
I've heard that the Orioles weren't going to pick up Lindstrom's option if they had kept him.
