Arrieta and game updates (Flaherty ties game with HR)

Jake Arrieta threw 30 fastballs today in a bullpen session at Triple-A Norfolk, and he didn't report any discomfort in his right shoulder. Arrieta will be re-evaluated on Wednesday and the Tides will determine when he's able to make his next start. Arrieta was scratched from Sunday's assignment because of discomfort in his right shoulder that was diagnosed as a strain. Reliever Adam Russell started in his place. Apparently, the discomfort first surfaced during Arrieta's last start, and he had trouble getting loose during a bullpen session. The Orioles decided to skip his turn as a precaution. Arrieta is 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA in three starts with the Tides since being demoted, with 16 hits, three walks and 17 strikeouts over 19 innings. He was 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in four starts with the Orioles, with 15 hits, 16 walks and 20 strikeouts over 19 innings. Chris Tillman retired the Padres in order in the top of the first inning tonight at Camden Yards, striking out Will Venable for the second out. He threw 20 pitches, 16 for strikes. Tillman's fastball topped out at 93 mph. Manny Machado singled into center field in the bottom of the first inning to raise his average to .335. Machado is trying to join Don Buford, Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken as the only Orioles with four consecutive games with three hits or more. One down, two to go. Update: Carlos Quentin led off the top of the second with a home run to give San Diego a 1-0 lead. Quentin is the only Padre who has faced Tillman. He's 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs. Tillman is up to 45 pitches through the second. He left the bases loaded by striking out Everth Cabrera. I've got to admit that I haven't heard of half the players on this Padres team. Update II: Ryan Flaherty tied the game in the third inning with an opposite-field home run. Flaherty's other home run came on April 13. Machado bounced to third base in his second at-bat tonight.
