The Washington Nationals today announced the return of Kids Eat Free, the popular first-of-its-kind program that debuted to rave reviews in 2019. Kids ages 12 and under can receive a free meal including a hot dog, choice of chips or applesauce, and bottled water or apple juice at all Nationals home games beginning Monday, June 27 (7:05 PM vs. PIT) through Wednesday, Aug. 3 (4:05 PM vs. NYM).

“When we became the first MLB team to launch a free meal program for young fans in 2019, we aimed to provide our fans with the best game day experience possible,” said Alan Gottlieb, Chief Operating Officer, Lerner Sports. “This season, we’re excited to bring Kids Eat Free back with some additional enhancements that make the process easier and more convenient, helping families spend more time together watching baseball at Nationals Park.”

Kids meals will be available via mobile ordering on the MLB Ballpark app at five concessions locations throughout the ballpark (Sections 110, 129, 141, 229 and 301). The Washington Nationals returned from rehabilitation assignment and reinstated infielder Alcides Escobar from the 10-day Injured List on Tuesday. On Sunday, the Nationals optioned right-handed pitcher Cory Abbott to Triple-A Rochester. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Escobar, 35, appeared in four rehab games, going 3-for-13 (.231) with one double, one homer, one RBI and two runs scored. He played three games at shortstop and one as the designated hitter with Triple-A Rochester.

Prior to being placed on the Injured List on June 1, Escobar hit .220 with four doubles, two triples, eight RBI, five walks, two hit by pitch, one stolen base and 11 runs scored in 35 games. He was hitting .311 (19-for-61) in 18 games prior to suffering a strained right hamstring on May 31.

Abbott, 26, appeared in one game out of Washington’s bullpen. He tossed one inning of scoreless relief on June 19 vs. Philadelphia.

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Andres Machado from Triple-A Rochester and placed left-handed pitcher Evan Lee on the 15-day Injured List with a left flexor strain on Saturday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Machado, 29, joins the Nationals for his fourth Major League stint this season. Prior to being optioned on Friday, he offered scoreless relief in two of his previous four outings, pitching to a 2.35 ERA (2 ER/7.2 IP) with nine strikeouts and one walk during that stretch. He tossed more than an inning in each of the four outings and 2.0 innings in three of the four. On the season, Machado has recorded a 5.48 ERA with 21 strikeouts and nine walks in 23.0 innings across 17 relief appearances.

Lee, 25, went 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in four games (one start) in his first stint in the Major Leagues.

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Cory Abbott from Triple-A Rochester and optioned right-handed pitcher Andres Machado to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Abbott, 26, joins the Nationals for the first time this season. He struck out 24 batters in 19.0 innings between Triple-A Iowa in Chicago’s (NL) system and Triple-A Rochester. He went 0-3 with a 7.58 ERA in eight games (four starts) between the two stops.

Abbott was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on May 4. He was acquired by the Giants from the Chicago Cubs on April 21 in exchange for cash considerations.

Selected in the second round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, Abbott made his Major League debut on June 5, 2021. He went on to appear in seven games (one start) for the Cubs in 2021, posting a 6.75 ERA across 17.1 innings pitched. Abbott is 21-23 with a 3.82 ERA and 10.8 strikeouts per 9.0 innings in 80 career Minor League games (76 starts).

Machado, 29, has posted a 5.48 ERA in 17 games out of Washington’s bullpen.

In light of the false and painful claims that have been alleged in the lawsuit that my son Louis has brought against me and my older son John, I want to set the record straight.

My husband of fifty-six years, Peter, has appointed me his sole Attorney in Fact and the sole controlling trustee of his revocable trust. I, alone, have the authority to manage the family’s assets and make decisions, and I take this responsibility very seriously.

Since I appointed John Angelos as Chairman and CEO of the Orioles in 2020, he has led the organization thoughtfully and effectively, including through unprecedentedly challenging times. John has my full faith as well as the trust and confidence of Major League Baseball, Commissioner Rob Manfred, MLB’s executive leadership group, and the “control persons” of the 29 other MLB Clubs who voted to approve John as the Orioles’ control person. 

At my direction, John worked exhaustively and successfully for two years with Governor Larry Hogan, MSA Chairman Tom Kelso, Mayor Brandon Scott and the Legislative leadership of Maryland to pass the law to modernize Camden Yards and ensure that the Orioles remain in Baltimore in perpetuity. 

I was born and raised in Northeast Baltimore, within walking distance of Memorial Stadium, attending City public schools at PS 50, PS 49, and Eastern High School. I attended the first Orioles Opening Day in 1954. Four decades later, our partnership group restored the team to local ownership, thereby avoiding the constant threat of relocation that had taken the Colts away from Baltimore. Any suggestion that Peter, John, or I would explore moving the Club is false and intentionally divisive.

As I have said before, as long as Fort McHenry is standing watch over the Inner Harbor, the Orioles will remain in Baltimore.

Just two months ago we celebrated the Maryland General Assembly passing a bill promising to put $1.2 billion into reinvesting and reimagining the Camden Yards Sports Complex, which includes Oriole Park, ensuring the team will continue to play right here in downtown Baltimore for generations to come. Maryland is committed to keeping our team in this great state, and I am equally committed to keeping the Orioles at the heart of our state. As stewards of “The Ballpark That Forever Changed Baseball,” we will continue to strengthen our community, generate another $10 billion in economic impact for the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland, and welcome another 70 million people to downtown Baltimore over the next 30 years and beyond. There is nothing uncertain about the future of the Baltimore Orioles.

The Washington Nationals returned from rehabilitation assignment and reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the 10-day Injured List and optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Clay to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Strasburg, 33, went 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in three rehab starts between Single-A Fredericksburg and Triple-A Rochester. He struck out 13 batters, walked six and allowed four hits in 13.2 innings pitched. Strasburg made his final rehab start on June 3 vs. Buffalo, allowing just one hit in 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

Strasburg is Washington’s all-time (2005-pres.) leader in starts (246), wins (113) and strikeouts (1,718). Since his debut in 2010, Strasburg ranks among Major League starting pitchers (min. 1,400.0 IP) in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (3^rd, 10.55), opponents’ slugging percentage (3^rd, .353), opponents’ OPS (4^th, .634), strikeout-to-walk ratio (6^th, 4.38), opponents’ batting average (5^th, .223), opponents’ on-base percentage (5^th, .280), walks and hits per innings pitched (5^th, 1.09), ERA (6^th, 3.21) and strikeouts (11^th, 1,718).

Clay, 28, did not appear in a game during his most recent Major League stint.

Tonight’s scheduled game between the Orioles and Cubs has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up on Thursday, August 18, at 3:05 p.m. ET. 

Tickets for tonight’s postponed game will be valid for the August 18 game, no exchange is necessary. If you are unable to attend the makeup date, you can exchange your tickets and have the value applied to any remaining 2022 regular season home game. The Washington Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Clay from Triple-A Rochester and optioned right-handed pitcher Joan Adon to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. 

Clay, 28, joins the Nationals for his third Major League stint this season. In 15 relief appearances for Rochester, he recorded a 1.26 ERA (2 ER/14.1 IP) with 12 strikeouts, five walks and held opposing batters to a .204 average (11-for-54). Clay tossed scoreless relief in 14 of the 15 outings. He has appeared in five games out of the Nationals’ bullpen this season.

Adon, 23, went 1-10 with a 6.95 ERA in 12 starts for the Nationals in 2022.

The Orioles have made the following roster moves:
