Joel Guzman, Carlos Rojas and Xavier Avery have the clutch hits so far tonight as Bowie leads Altoona 6-2 after four innings here at Prince George's Stadium.
Guzman hit a three-run homer in the first, his 33rd of the year to tie the Baysox single-season record and Rojas came up with a two-run double in the fourth.
After Altoona scored single runs in the 3rd and 4th to cut Bowie's lead to 3-2, Bowie answered in the last of the fourth.
With two out and none on, Altoona pitcher Jeff Locke hit Steve Lerud and he went to third on a Jonathan Tucker double. Rojas fell behind 0-2 in the count, but then doubled to left center to score two big runs for a 5-2 edge.
It got worse for Locke when Xavier Avery ripped an RBI ground double down the first base line for a 6-2 lead. Bowie came up with three runs after there were two outs and none on.
Meanwhile, New Hampshire has tied Harrisburg 2-2 in the 6th. Bowie begins tonight 1/2 game back of Harrisburg for second place and an Eastern League playoff berth.
Update: Ryan Adams led off the last of the 5th with a homer to right-center. His 14th of the year gives Bowie a 7-2 lead as Zagone pitches in the top of the sixth.
