The Nationals took control of today's game against the Mets in the first inning.
In the top of the first with two outs, Gio Gonzalez walked Asdrúbal Cabrera. He went to second on a wild pitch.
Travis Taijeron singled up the middle and Michael A. Taylor threw home to Matt Wieters. Wieters tagged out a sliding Cabrera to end the inning.
In the bottom of the first with one out, Wilmer Difo reached on a catching error by right-hander Robert Gsellman. Anthony Rendon doubled to put two men in scoring position. A wild pitch scored Difo to make it 1-0. Adam Lind's fielder's choice scored Rendon and it was 2-0. Later with the bases loaded, Adrián Sanchez lined a single to left field to score two more runs.
After one inning, the Nats led 4-0.
Update: In the second, Lind added another RBI. Difo scored following a single and has put up two runs in the game.
The Mets got to Gonzalez with two outs in the third. José Reyes doubled and came home on a Juan Lagares RBI single.
After three innings, the Nats lead the Mets 5-1.
Update II: Howie Kendrick singled with one out in the fourth and went to second on a Difo groundout. With two away, Rendon singled to score Kendrick. Lind singled in the inning, his second base hit of the game. The Nats had nine hits off of Gsellman in four innings. He gave up six runs (two earned) with two walks, one strikeout and one wild pitch on 74 pitches (43 strikes).
Mid-fifth, the Nats led 6-1.
Update III: Wilmer Flores is seeing Gonzalez well today. He singled in his first two at-bats. Then in the sixth with two outs, he launched an 0-1 pitch over the left-center field wall for a solo homer. It marked his 16th homer of the season.
Mid-sixth in D.C., the Nats led the Mets 6-2.
Update IV: The Mets scored two runs on four hits against Brandon Kintzler in the eighth. Flores smacked a two-run double, his fourth hit of the game. Kintzler managed to get Taijeron to ground out to Difo to end the threat.
Mid-eighth, the Nats hold a 6-4 led.
Update V: The Nats scored three runs off four hits in the eighth. Sanchez got hit with a pitch from Jeurys Familia in the chest while attempting to bunt. He was down for some time before returning to his at-bat and then singled to left field to score a run. Kendrick added a run-scoring single. Difo finished the scoring with another RBI single. Daniel Murphy, who walked and scored a run, stayed in the game in the ninth at second base. Edwin Jackson pinch-ran for Sanchez and scored a run.
After eight innings, the Nats led the Mets 9-4.
Oliver Pérez pitched the ninth. He allowed a triple to pinch-hitter Matt Reynolds with one out. Pérez then got Reyes to pop out to first base. Lagares struck out looking to end the game.
The Nats even the series at 1-1 and are 10-4 against the Mets this season.
