Britton headed to DL, Asher recalled (plus O's lineup)

The Orioles are returning closer Zach Britton to the disabled list today with a strained left forearm, the same ailment that removed him from the bullpen last month.

Alec Asher has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. He's allowed to return before the mandatory 10 days because he's replacing an injured player.

Britton has allowed one run and 12 hits over nine innings in his eight appearances. He's pitched twice since coming off the disabled list, posting two scoreless innings and benefitting from a triple play in Boston.

The Orioles put Britton on the DL on April 16 while the team was in Toronto. He made two appearances on an injury rehab assignment and was activated on May 2.

Wade Miley has a bandage on his left wrist, but he's shooting pool in the clubhouse. That's a good sign.

Ryan Flaherty is starting at second base tonight, ending Jonathan Schoop's streak of consecutive games at 190. Schoop was hit on the hand last night.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gabriel Ynoa was the second pitcher in the last 40 seasons to earn a win in his first game with a team after throwing at least six scoreless innings in relief. Ray Burris did it with the Athletics in 1984.

Jason Johnson was the last Orioles reliever to toss at least six innings in relief on Aug. 23, 2000 in Chicago.
