Henderson isn't in Orioles' lineup this afternoon (updated)

The Orioles wrap up their first homestand of the season with a lineup that doesn’t include Gunnar Henderson.

Henderson wasn’t at his locker this morning and he had a box and mail sitting on his chair.

Cedric Mullins is leading off today. Jordan Westburg is batting third.

Tyler O’Neill is the designated hitter, Heston Kjerstad is in right field and Dylan Carlson is in left.

Jackson Holliday is playing shortstop.

Charlie Morton makes his second start after facing the Blue Jays Friday night and allowing four runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. Two of the runners scored after he left. His pitch count swelled to 80.

A key for Morton will be his breaking ball, which didn’t get the usual results and left him perplexed. His fastball was touching 97 mph.

“I think they did a really good job handling my breaking ball," Morton said. "The four-seamer for me tonight, I don’t know. It’s been a while since that pitch actually played up and I felt like it was. I wasn’t throwing like particularly hard. I got above a lot of barrels, which is kind of weird for me. I think I got one out on a breaking ball tonight, which is really strange. I don’t know.”

Morton has made 15 career starts against the Red Sox and gone 8-2 with a 4.21 ERA in 83 1/3 innings. Alex Bregman is 1-for-14.

Kyle Bradish is long-tossing in the outfield.

Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck faced the Rangers in his first outing and allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He has a 3.50 ERA in nine games (five starts) against the Orioles, and he’s allowed four earned runs in 16 innings at Camden Yards.

Mullins is 5-for-18 with a double and home run against Houck. Ramón Urías is 4-for-8. Ryan Mountcastle is 3-for-16.

* Manager Brandon Hyde said Henderson is “probable” to play Friday night in Kansas City.

“This is a scheduled off-day, travel day for him,” Hyde said. “Played a couple in a row, got cut a little bit short last night cause of weather, but this off-day today was kind of in his rehab schedule. But should be in there tomorrow.”

Hyde added that Henderson probably would meet the team in Kansas City.

“I think everybody’s looking forward to having Gunnar back on the team,” Hyde said. “The rehab went really, really well. I talked to him a couple days ago. He feels great, swinging the bat, his timing came, especially the last few days. He just had to get out there and get some reps defensively and get some games in, and it all went well.”

Asked whether Henderson would be full-go, Hyde said, “We’ll see. I’m just gonna be talking with him every single day and with the training staff. Love to give guys days off when we can because of this marathon season that we’re in.”

Dean Kremer, Tomoyuki Sugano and Cade Povich are starting in Kansas City. Everyone stays on turn.
