SARASOTA, Fla. - Cameron Diaz took her seat beside the Yankees' dugout at exactly 8:25 p.m., but who's counting?
If she looks over at me one more time, I'm going to start getting uncomfortable.
Kevin Gregg tossed a perfect fourth inning, striking out one. He hasn't allowed a run in three innings this spring.
Jeremy Accardo survived a one-out double by Melky Mesa in the fifth and a walk to Mark Teixeira in the sixth.
The Orioles have four hits, courtesy of Brian Roberts, Mark Reynolds, Adam Jones and Felix Pie.
Zach Britton said he wasn't nervous tonight.
"I think the national anthem got a couple laughs out of me, so it broke the ice for everything," he said, referring to the singer botching the lyrics. "I was excited to be out there, but I really wasn't nervous. I was talking to the guys, and they were like, 'Hey, just go after the guys. They were no different than the Phillies were.'
"I have a lot of respect for what those guys have done on the field, but in between the lines I was like, I don't care who you are, I'm going to go after you today. If you beat me, you beat me."
They didn't beat him. Britton shut out the Yankees on two hits.
"Obviously, I heard their names and it was cool to be facing them, but at the same time, I just picked up Matt (Wieters). And I was like, I'm not going to look at those guys. I am going to focus on Matt and making my pitches."
Britton said his stuff was good, and he concentrated on throwing his four-seam fastball because he was getting a lot of movement on it.
"It's tough to throw first-pitch strikes when it's moving like that, but it was good. Got good results," he said.
Britton got to take the field with most of the projected starters for Opening Day, including Wieters, who guided him through three innings.
"He gives good feedback because he knows these hitters just as well as anybody," Britton said. "Going back to the dugout in between innings, he was like, 'Hey, let's try this, let's try that. This is what this guy does.' It was a lot easier for me to go out there and stick with what I wanted to do, which was throw fastballs and get ground balls."
