Here's a quick update on Orioles' left-hander Zach Britton, who's been rehabbing his left shoulder at the minor league complex in Sarasota.
Britton has spent the last few days long-tossing from 120-plus feet. He threw a few pitches off a mound today with a catcher in front of home plate.
"Just an exercise to get my arm used to that angle again," he said. "My arm feels strong and healthy."
Britton doesn't know when he'll be ready to pitch in a game.
"I'm sure Chris (Correnti) and I will have a better idea after this week," he said.
Here's a minor league note:
Single-A Frederick Keys outfielder Ronnie Welty has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for April 16-22. In four games, Welty went 11-for-18 with four doubles, a triple, a home run and nine RBIs. His slash line during those games sits at .611/.632 /1.111.
Welty is hitting .415/.446/.830 in 13 games this season. His 13 extra-base hits lead the league, and his .415 average and .830 slugging percentage rank second.
Update: Welty has been promoted to Double-A Bowie.
The Orioles released pitcher Ross Wolf, who posted a 6.75 ERA in seven games with the Baysox. He allowed 12 hits, walked two and struck out seven in eight innings.
Update II: Executive vice president Dan Duquette confirmed to CBSsports.com that pitcher Dontrelle Willis left Triple-A Norfolk without permission, but the Orioles want him back.
And yes, Willis is unhappy pitching in relief. That's the issue.
