Can the Orioles offense pick up the pace and join the pitchers?

On April 16, the Orioles scored 10 runs at Chicago in a win over the White Sox. But then they scored a total of just 30 runs over their next 10 games. That stretch ended with another 10-run outburst, this one Saturday at Camden Yards against Oakland. With seven more runs last night, the O's offense is showing signs of possibly breaking out a bit right now. Over those last four games, the Orioles' team batting average is .298 with 39 hits. They have scored 23 runs in those games with seven doubles, four homers and a batting average of .346 (9-for-26) during that time with runners in scoring position. The Orioles lead the major leagues with 18 road homers and lead the majors with 14 homers hit from the seventh inning on. Adam Jones enters tonight's game batting .368 at 14-for-38 during a 10-game batting streak. Chris Davis is 10-for-21 over his last seven games with four homers, nine runs and nine RBIs. Wilson Betemit is 8-for-23 during a seven-game hitting streak. Maybe that two-run homer by J.J. Hardy last night will get him going. Hardy has not had a multi-hit game since April 17, going now 13 games without one. Mark Reynolds, starting tonight at third base, does not have a single RBI over his last 11 games and has not homered since he hit one last September 24 off Detroit's Justin Verlander. His current stretch entering this game of 73 at-bats without a homer is the third longest of his career. Nick Markakis, who is 1-for-2 tonight at New York with a double in the first inning, has now gone 22 games without a home run. The Orioles left the bases loaded in the first inning tonight and the Orioles and Yankees were tied at 0-0 entering the fourth inning tonight in the Bronx.
