The Orioles will place reliever Chaz Roe on the 15-day disabled list before tonight's game in Seattle and recall Mychal Givens from Double-A Bowie.
Givens already has joined the team in Seattle, as I wrote in my last blog entry. He was optioned on Thursday to make room for Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia, but he's allowed to return before the minimum 10 days because he's replacing an injured player.
Roe is 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 28 appearances this season. He was tagged with the loss yesterday in Anaheim after allowing a leadoff double in the 11th inning.
David Murphy singled off Brian Matusz with the bases loaded and two outs for the walk-off victory.
Roe was 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 1.111 WHIP in 20 appearances in the first half. He's 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA and 2.217 WHIP in eight appearances in the second half.
Roe has been scored upon in three of his last four appearances and has let his last three inherited runners score. He hasn't produced a clean outing in 13 of his last 14 appearances.
The Orioles bullpen again has two players with minor league options, Givens and left-hander T.J. McFarland, to provide more roster flexibility.
Givens is 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA in 35 appearances at Bowie, with 38 hits, 16 walks and 79 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings. He hasn't allowed a run in his three appearances with the Orioles, permitting one hit, walking none and striking out six in four innings.
Update: Roe was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.
Also, the Orioles acquired right-hander Matt Buschmann from the Reds for cash considerations, according to a team official. He's been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.
Buschmann is a combined 8-10 with a 4.03 ERA in 22 starts between Triple-A Durham and Louisville.
