Checking in with some minor league stats and notes (updated)

The Double-A Bowie Baysox are playing this afternoon and, at least check, lead Erie 10-5 in the seventh inning. Tyler Townsend has two hits, including his fourth homer. Hot-hitting Buck Britton is 2-for-3 and is now batting .361. Brandon Waring is 3-for-4 with a three-run homer. Antoan Richardson has hit a three-run homer as well for Bowie, which began today with a record of 3-6. Update: Bowie blew the five-run lead and lost 11-10 at Erie in ten innings as the Baysox gave up four runs in the ninth and one in the tenth. Sean Gleason allowed four runs in one inning, but all four were unearned. A lot of offense today but it didn't produce a win for the Baysox. Single-A Delmarva is now 4-5 with four consecutive losses, all by one run. The Shorebirds lead the South Atlantic League in hit by pitches (11) and sacrifice flies (five). The Shorebirds also rank second in stolen bases (16) and third in walks (44). They ranks sixth in runs scored (43). Delmarva outfielder John Ruettiger is tied with Britton for the Orioles' minor league lead with 11 hits after a three-hit day Friday. He also ranks third in the system with a .355 batting average and first in the organization with five stolen bases. Outfielder Glynn Davis has six hits in his last four games (at 6-for-13) after going 3-for-16 in his first four. He's now batting .308. He also has four walks over the last three games. The Single-A Frederick Keys' defensive miscues continue. They made two outfield errors in the ninth inning last night - one each from Trent Mummey and Jeremy Nowak, apparently on routine plays - to lose a 3-0 lead and fall 4-3 at Wilmington. On the year, the Keys have now committed 17 errors - seven more than the next-closest team. Their 12 unearned runs also lead the Carolina League. Scott Copeland has pitched 10 1/3 shutout innings in two starts for the Keys and Mike Wright makes his second Frederick start tonight after pitching six scoreless in his season debut. Baltimorean Steve Johnson makes his second start of the year tonight when Triple-A Norfolk hosts Charlotte. The right-hander gave up just one run and three hits over five innings in his first outing. Norfolk catcher John Hester hit a walk-off homer in the last of the 14th to give the Tides a win last night. Oscar Villarreal (1-0) picked up the win with three shutout innings, capping a stellar night for the Tides bullpen. Villarreal combined with three other relievers to allow just five hits and three walks while striking out six in 7 1/3 shutout innings. In three outings so far, Villarreal has yet to surrender a run in 7 2/3 innings, holding opposing batters to a .080 average (2-for-25).
