Chien-Ming Wang continues to make strides in rehab

VIERA, Fla. - The Nationals continue to be pleased with Chien-Ming Wang's progress as the righty works back from a left hamstring injury. Wang threw from 300 feet yesterday and "looked great," according to manager Davey Johnson. As a result, the Nats skipper has decided to bring Wang north with the club when camp breaks. "He looked great throwing the ball," Johnson said. "So I just want to keep looking at him for another four or five days." It's still unclear whether Wang will accompany the team to Chicago to open the season or if he'll remain in D.C., but what is clear is that Johnson is happy with what he's seeing lately from the righty. Wang injured the hamstring in a start against the Yankees back on March 15. "The ball is really coming out of his hand really good. He was fun to watch throw. That's why I want to keep him with me." Johnson keeps saying that Wang is "ahead of schedule" and that his arm is in great shape. But the Nats won't rush the veteran right-hander back into action, given his injury history and how much they want to get out of him later in the season. Johnson indicated that when Wang doesn't feel any discomfort in the hamstring, he'll begin side sessions, and then will graduate to pitching in rehab games. "He's a very important cog in what we've got going here, and want to rush him to where there's a setback," Johnson said. Also on the injured pitcher front, Drew Storen played catch on flat ground from 60 feet yesterday, and plans to throw off a mound tomorrow. Storen has been dealing with elbow inflammation, but said today that he "feels good." Johnson didn't have any updates on Chad Durbin, who left the team yesterday. Durbin's wife Crystal was scheduled to give birth to the couple's second child this morning. The Nats' skipper then ended his session with reporters by asking whether Twitter had any updates on Durbin's baby. That's not exactly how Twitter works, skip; it doesn't just send out messages when babies are born.
