Chippin' away at a big deficit (updated)

Ross Detwiler put the Nationals in a hole. They're slowly working their way out of it. The Orioles came through with six runs off Detwiler in just five innings, and jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four and a half. Detwiler allowed 10 baserunners in his time on the mound tonight (nine hits, one walk) and wasn't fooling anyone all outing. Two of those nine hits were two-run home runs, which came off the bats of Adam Jones and Nick Markakis. But the Nats are battling back, and now trail just 6-4 as we go to the seventh. Washington got a run in the fifth when they put together three straight two-out singles off the bats of Roger Bernadina, pinch hitter Tyler Moore and Steve Lombardozzi. They then tacked on three runs in the sixth, knocking O's starter Jason Hammel from the game and getting to within two. Rick Ankiel pushed a run across with an RBI double, Carlos Maldonado plated one on a groundout and Bernadina got another big two-out knock to get the Nats' fourth run in. Ryan Perry then followed with a 1-2-3 seventh (setting down the heart of the Orioles order). Now it's up to the offense to scratch across a couple more big runs. Update: The Nats couldn't get anything in the seventh or eighth, despite bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate with one out in the eighth. With Ian Desmond and Carlos Maldonado on and just one out, Roger Bernadina flew out to center and pinch hitter Danny Espinosa lined out to left to end the inning. We go to the ninth.
