Chris Davis with two homers and six RBIs as O's roll (with quotes)

The Orioles offense had produced just six runs and two homers the last three games. They matched those numbers in the first six batters of the last of the first tonight. But it would get even better.

First baseman Chris Davis hit two homers, one a grand slam, and drove in a career-high six runs as the Orioles hammered Texas 12-1 at Camden Yards.

On the second pitch of the game, Texas outfielder Shin-Soo Choo homered off right-hander Dylan Bundy. But it was all Orioles from there.

Adam Jones reached on a single and Manny Machado walked against Texas right-hander Tyson Ross in the bottom of the first. Jonathan Schoop's two-run double to left-center gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead. It became 4-1 when Davis homered to center off the glove off Carlos Gomez. It was No. 15 for Davis. Mark Trumbo reached on an infield single and scored on Trey Mancini's two-run homer, and it was 6-1 before an out was recorded. Mancini had gone 17 games without a home run.

The Orioles added a run in the sixth on Machado's infield single with the bases loaded. Seth Smith hit a solo homer in the eighth.

Some notes on the win:
* Davis hit his first grand slam of the year, the third by the Orioles and the eighth of his career. Welington Castillo and Trumbo also hit slams this season.

* Davis produced his second multi-homer game of the year and 19th of his career.

* Davis had been 1-for-14 in four games since returning from the DL.

* The Orioles had been outscored 63-44 in the first inning before tonight. By run differential, the -19 made the first inning their second-worst, behind the -24 in the fourth. They improved on that stat as well with the slam.

* The 12 runs were the club's most in a game since they beat St. Louis 15-7 on June 17.

* The Orioles hit four or more homers for the ninth time. Their 16 hits were four short of the season high of 20, recorded May 16 in 13 innings versus Detroit.

Meanwhile, Dylan Bundy provided the club a second straight quality start for the first time since June 1-2. He got the win, going six innings while allowing four hits and one run to improve to 9-8 with a 4.18 ERA 4.18. This was Bundy's 13th quality start in 19 outings. No other O's pitcher has more than five. The Orioles have back-to-back quality starts after going 10 games without one.

After losing three straight to the Cubs, the Orioles have won the first two against Texas to improve to 27-19 at home and 44-49 overall.

In the series' third game on Wednesday night, right-hander Kevin Gausman (5-7, 6.39 ERA) pitches against lefty Martin Perez (5-6, 4.55 ERA).

From the clubhouse:

Davis on scoring 12 runs: "It was one of those nights where we kind of fed off each other. We've been looking for that for awhile. It felt good to see one through nine hit tonight. Anytime your offense has a game like tonight, I feel like everyone can grab a deep breath and not stress so much. We didn't give at-bats away, we stayed in there and got a positive result."

Davis on his first career six-RBI game: "I didn't know until my last at-bat. The good people at the ballpark let me know by putting it on the Jumbotron. I think as a hitter, any time you've been working hard for a feeling or with one thing in mind, you like to see the result, obviously. I've taken a lot of swings in the last couple of days to get my rhythm and timing back. I was really proud how we hit through the lineup tonight."

Davis on Tillman and Bundy the last two nights: "Those are the games that you feel like, as an offense, you need to win. When your starter is throwing well and gets deep in the game, you want to back him up with some runs. Proud of the way those guys are throwing the ball and hung in there. I know it's been tough, but we'll keep getting after them."

Bundy on all the offense: "Any time you get a cushion from the offense it makes you feel like you have some wiggle room out there. Really just makes you attack hitters, moreso with the fastball. Just try to get the guys back in the dugout so they can hit some more."

Bundy on rust pitching on 11 days' rest: "Yeah, first three innings I just felt off. I can't really even explain what was off, but something was. That is how you get out of it. Just staying in the game and pitching and trying to figure out things that work and make adjustments that day."

Bundy liked his pitch mix tonight: "Yeah, I mean, and then later in the game like the fifth and sixth inning I started attacking guys, moreso with the fastball. Because I had showed other pitches I could throw for strikes. The main thing is mixing up pitches and keeping guys off balance."
