Comments from Adam Jones, Miguel Gonzalez, Steve Pearce and Bryce Harper after O's loss

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones told reporters after tonight's game that he is fine after he got hit in the face by Nationals first baseman Tyler Moore's glove as he slid into first base in the last of the fifth. Jones also reached for the bag with his sore right shoulder but was out on the play.

"He made sure he tagged me," Jones said. "I'm all right. Cry later."

It was another night without a hit with a runner in scoring position for the Orioles who are 0-for-15 with RISP in this series and 1-for-35 (.026) their past five games.

"We haven't been efficient with men in scoring position, just got to get back to being efficient, bearing down with runners in scoring position," Jones said. "That's all it is. It's not like the opposing pitcher is going to groove a fastball right down the middle and let you do it. So, we got to concentrate more and get it done."

Meanwhile, Miguel Gonzalez took tonight's loss, giving up nine hits and six runs over five innings plus four batters.

He had retired 10 in a row and was leading 4-2 until he gave up four straight hits, including two homers, in the sixth to trail 6-4. Bryce Harper hit a solo shot and Danny Espinosa a three-run blast.

Gonzalez is now 2-2 with an ERA of 7.53 in four starts since coming off the disabled list.

"I think the only thing I'm doing wrong is thinking too much right now," Gonzalez said. "Really not focusing on letting it go and just be myself. Right now, mechanically, I'm just overthinking things. I think that's what's getting away from me. I will go on the break and refresh and come the second half and do what I can do do.

"It's tough man, honestly. You go in and you think about it and you're like, 'What's going on?' I was throwing really good for a couple innings and they're good hitters. You tip your hat to them. When you don't make good pitches, bad things might happen."

Right before he gave up those runs in the sixth, Gonzalez retired the side in order from the third through the fifth on just 26 pitches.

"Dave Wallace came up to me and told me not to rush, and stay over the rubber. (Chris) Tillman talked to me about it, the same thing," Gonzalez said. "Really just not thinking there and the results were really good. Other than that, I thought we hit well, we played some good defense and I just didn't give my teammates a chance to win this ballgame."

Is Gonzalez still thinking about or bothered by the right groin strain that sent him to the DL?

"Not at all," he said. "The injury is way back there. Haven't been thinking about, honestly. You know how baseball is. You have your ups and downs. Like Buck (Showalter) said, not overthink things and just come out and be yourself. Not do too much when things aren't going well for our team."

Steve Pearce got the start tonight when Chris Davis was a late scratch due to stomach flu. Pearce homered, but the O's RISP struggles continued.

"It's just one of those things," Pearce said. "That's baseball. We're just going through it right now, a tough period. We've got to try to battle through it, and we'll do it. We've gone through something similar earlier in the year, and we got out of it. It's kind of frustrating right now, but we'll get through it.

"It was nice to be able to contribute, but I'd take a win any day of the week. The loss kind of overshadows everything you do. It's part of the grind. Come back the next day and try to get that win."

Pearce was asked if the All-Star break comes at a good time for an Orioles team that has lost nine of 12 games.

"We're grinding right now, could use a little breather but we've got to come out and win tomorrow. That's the most important thing, then we can use that for momentum going into the All-Star break," he said.

Harper talked about his team's win, but also said that, despite his homer tonight, he doesn't like hitting at Camden Yards.

"I don't. I really don't. I can't stand it, actually," Harper said. "I can't see very well. Hopefully in the day time tomorrow, I see it better. I feel it's a little dark. I think we played great tonight. Being able to have some timely hitting. Espinosa doing what he was doing tonight, hitting that three-run shot that's a big thing for us. As a team, we're playing well, and it's a lot of fun."
