Craig Stammen heads to DL with right forearm stiffness, Taylor Jordan recalled

BOSTON - The bad news is relentless for the Nationals these days. The team announced this morning that right forearm stiffness is sending right-hander Craig Stammen to the 15-day disabled list.

The Nationals chose to recall right-hander Taylor Jordan from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Stammen instead of a left-hander. The Nats' only lefty in the bullpen is Matt Thornton, after Xavier Cedeno was designated for assignment yesterday. This is interesting, considering the Phillies come to D.C. tomorrow to begin a four-game series with a lineup full of left-handed bats.

The 26-year-old Jordan's last outing was Friday, night when he threw six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out five.

Jordan is 1-6 with a 4.31 ERA in 14 career big league starts with the Nationals. After coming to spring training still recovering from surgery to remove bone chips in his right elbow, Taylor gave up four earned runs on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 12 exhibition innings.
