Davis stands alone in 40/40 club (we're tied)

Orioles first baseman Chris Davis swings the bat, makes contact with a pitch and climbs another list in franchise history. He can't help himself. Davis' two-out, two-run double off Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte in the bottom of the third inning gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead. It also made Davis the only Oriole to register a 40-double, 40-home run season. Only 26 different players in baseball history have done it. Brian Roberts and Manny Machado singled with two outs before Davis lined his double into right field. Third base coach Bobby Dickerson made an aggressive send on Machado, who slid across the plate as Robinson Cano's throw sailed over the head of catcher Chris Stewart. Dickerson must have stolen the sign for bad relay throw. Davis leads the majors with 89 extra-base hits, 20 more than the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera and three shy of Brady Anderson's club record set in 1996. Only two Orioles have led the majors in extra-base hits: Frank Robinson (85) in 1966 and Cal Ripken (85) in 1991. Scott Feldman has retired 12 in a row since Brett Gardner's leadoff walk in the first. Danny Valencia is 2-for-2 tonight and is batting .377 (29-for-77) against left-handers this season. Valencia has nine multi-hit games in his last 11 starts. Update: Feldman lost his no-hitter on Curtis Granderson's leadoff home run in the top of the fifth inning. Feldman had retired 12 in a row. The Orioles had extended their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth on doubles by Valencia and J.J. Hardy. Update II: Granderson's home run measured 422 feet and was the 10th ball to land on Eutaw St. this season, setting a Camden Yards record. Granderson's shot was the 76th Eutaw St. home run in ballpark history, the 46th by an opponent, the ninth by a Yankee and the second by Granderson. Update III: Major League Baseball allows Alex Rodriguez to play and he keeps doing damage to the Orioles. Rodriguez homered with two outs in the top of the sixth to tie the score 2-2. Feldman had retired 17 of the last 18 batters. Robinson Cano followed with a single before Feldman struck out Alfonso Soriano. Brian Matusz was warming in the bullpen. Feldman has thrown 88 pitches in six innings.
