Despite not playing every day, Adams is enjoying his first big league chance

For Ryan Adams, the last few weeks have been a bit of a mixed bag. He's been through the excitement of getting his first call to the major leagues. But also, for the first time in his life, he has not played much. "It's just kind of part of it when you get called up," Adams said in the Orioles' clubhouse. "(Robert) Andino's been playing really well and it's most about the experience and learning for me right now anyway. I've been here trying to work hard and enjoy every moment and take it all in. "Watching the veteran guys and how they go about their business every day. Developing routines and watching them work. They are doing what I want to do one day." Adams, who will start at second base today batting eighth, is 3-for-15, batting .200 in six games. He made his first big league start May 20 against Washington and got his first big league hit. But not playing every day, when you have always done that, can take some adjustments. "It is a little weird, but it's out of my hands. It's nothing that I can worry about. Whenever I get the call I have to be ready," he said. Adams, who was batting .303 with Norfolk at the time of his callup, said he is doing everything before the game like he always has and feels he like he is making progress. But it must be hard to measure that without doing it in a game. "I guess it's hard to know (about making progress). You have to play the game to get up to game speed," Adams said. So for now, he is enjoying this first trip to the majors, even if regular at-bats are not there for him now. "It's been great. I love going out on the field and just looking up at these huge stadiums," he said. "You don't get that in the minor leagues. Everything about the major leagues is so much nicer. You look at the other bench too and see guys like Evan Longoria. "Everyone has been great to me here, saying if you need anything let me know. It's a good group."
