Five Nationals receive MVP votes

Giants catcher Buster Posey claimed National League Most Valuable Player honors, getting 27 of the 32 first-place votes handed out. The 25-year-old Posey has had a decent year; he won the batting title, got himself a World Series ring and now has taken home the NL MVP award. The Nationals, meanwhile, were well-represented in the MVP voting. Five Nats received MVP votes. Adam LaRoche finished tied for sixth with the Mets' David Wright in the voting, accumulating 86 points. LaRoche received six fifth-place votes and was listed in 19 of the 32 ballots. LaRoche finished behind Posey, Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and Padres third baseman Chase Headley. Ian Desmond finished tied for 16th with the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, getting one seventh-place vote and being listed on five other ballots. Gio Gonzalez came in 20th, tied with three other players. He got one fifth-place vote, which came from Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, and was on one other ballot. Ryan Zimmerman also received a fifth-place vote, which came from Tracy Ringolsby of FoxSports.com, and tied for 24th with Miami's Giancarlo Stanton, while Bryce Harper got one ninth-place vote, from Jon Heyman of CBSsports.com, and finished tied with the Reds' Johnny Cueto for 30th place.
