Four scoreless for Zimmermann, extra bases for Harper

VIERA, Fla. - With four innings in the books and 72 pitches under his belt, Jordan Zimmermann is done for the day. Zimmermann, making his third start of spring, did not allow a run today, scattering six hits and striking out three. Of his 72 pitches, he threw 50 strikes - by my count, at least. Zimmermann didn't have his best stuff today, but he showed off a very sharp slider on a few occasions, and threw first-pitch strikes to 11 of the 17 batters he faced. So far this spring, the righty has allowed four runs in 10 2/3 innings, giving up 16 hits and striking out six. He's the first guy to officially complete four innings for the Nationals this spring, although Gio Gonzalez threw four frames in a game which was rained out last weekend. Rafael Martin comes on to relieve Zimmermann to start the fifth. Hitting in the bottom of the fourth, Bryce Harper got in the extra-base hit column in Grapefruit League play, smoking the first pitch he saw from Marlins righty Steve Cishek down the left-field line for a double. The 19-year-old phenom got himself a warm hand from the Space Coast Stadium crowd as he slid safely into second. Harper's previous six hits this spring had all been singles. The Nats hold a 1-0 lead in the fifth, with Chad Tracy's RBI groundout bringing in the only run of the day.
