Free baseball (O's lose 5-4 in 12 innings)

The Orioles didn't have a hit since Robert Andino's leadoff double in the fifth inning when pinch-hitter Nolan Reimold came to the plate in the ninth. Seemed like a good time to end the drought and start a rally. Reimold rolled a single into right field off Yankees reliever Boone Logan, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi summoned Cory Wade into the game. Wade retired Mark Reynolds on a pop up, bringing Chris Davis to the plate and Andino to the on-deck circle, where he had trouble picking up the signs from catcher Russell Martin. Davis singled into right field to put runners on first and second for Andino, who bounced into a force at second. Runners stood on the corners for Endy Chavez. Extra innings stared us in our frozen faces. Andino took second and Chavez was issued an intentional walk after getting ahead, 3-0. The bases were loaded for J.J. Hardy. Extra innings still stared us in our frozen faces. It also mocked us. The Yankees gathered on the mound with pitching coach Larry Rothschild, most likely in a futile attempt to get warm. Hardy got ahead, 1-0, and popped up the next pitch. We've got extra innings and Troy Patton. Update: A two-out ground-rule double by Raul Ibanez scored Robinson Cano, who led off the 12th with a double, and gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead. Pedro Strop walked Curtis Granderson intentionally with two outs to put runners on the corners. Mark Reynolds overran a pop up near the third base seats, but Pedro Strop managed to get the second out with Cano on third base. He almost escaped the jam. Almost. Tough night for Reynolds in the field. The Orioles' bullpen hadn't allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings before the 12th. It surrendered three hits, walked one and struck out seven. Strop was working his second inning. He's normally not pushed that far, but manager Buck Showalter doesn't have many choices here.
