Hagerstown places Brian Goodwin on disabled list

Low Single-A Hagerstown outfielder Brian Goodwin has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a leg injury, the team announced. The move became effective Tuesday. Right fielder Angelberth Montilla also was placed on the disabled list with a broken hamate bone in his left hand. The Suns called up outfielders Billy Burns and Narciso Mesa from extended spring training and placed them on the active roster. Suns manager Brian Daubach told WJEJ 1240 AM in Hagerstown during Tuesday's pregame show that Goodwin suffered an "upper leg injury" and hopes the young outfielder will be back in the lineup at the end of the seven-day disabled list period, which would be April 17. Goodwin left Monday's game after sustaining what appeared to be a leg injury on an infield single. Meanwhile, Nationals outfielder Rick Ankiel went 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .429 in his minor league rehab games for the Suns. He is eligible to return to the Nats on April 14. The Suns pounded out 18 hits, smacking a pair of grand slams, in a 16-8 victory over Lexington on Tuesday. Right-hander Wirkin Estevez went five innings and allowed four runs to notch the win. Shortstop Jason Martinson had a grand slam, two-run homer and a double, going 3-for-3 with five runs and six RBIs. It has not been just Goodwin who has had to fight through an injury. Suns pitchers have had to dodge hot shots right back to the mound the last few games. Pitchers Kylin Turnbull (bicep), Christopher McKenzie (shin) and Christian Meza (chest) have all had to endure getting hit by line drives. All three have had their share of bumps and bruises, but no serious injuries from those batted balls right back at them.
