Bryce Harper is not in today's lineup for the Nationals. That shouldn't come as a huge surprise, given the fact Harper left last night's game after six innings with a stiff neck he said has been bothering him for several days. Combine that with his ongoing struggles at the plate and the presence of Madison Bumgarner on the mound today for the Giants, and this just seems like a good time for a day off for Harper.
The Nationals lineup, though, is left depleted. Danny Espinosa, who has slumped himself over the last month, has to hit sixth. Chris Heisey, filling in for Harper in right field, bats seventh. Ben Revere, stuck in a season-long slump, hits eighth.
Needless to say, the Nats could really use another big-time start from Tanner Roark, who has turned in a bunch of those this season. A win today would lock up the season series against the Giants; a loss would give theoretical home-field advantage to San Francisco should these teams end up tied at season's end and then meet in October...
