It's Season Plan Holder Appreciation Day here at Nationals Park. It's also Max Scherzer Simulated Game No. 2 Day. These two events are going on simultaneously, which is both cool (the fans are able to watch this) and awkward (Dan Kolko, Bo Porter and Alex Chappell are holding a Q&A as Scherzer pitches directly behind them).
Anyways, tonight's game ... the Nationals are riding a five-game winning streak into this evening's contest. They'll look to improve to a season-best 12 games over .500, which would be quite an achievement given their low point back in May was 12 games under .500.
It's AnÃbal Sánchez on the mound against a tough Brewers lineup that nonetheless could only push across one run last night against Patrick Corbin, Daniel Hudson, Hunter Strickland and Sean Doolittle. Sánchez's dominant stretch continues: Over his last 13 starts, he's 7-0 with a 2.99 ERA. This is his first outing of the year against Milwaukee.
The Nationals lineup has a small twist: Asdrúbal Cabrera is not only starting at second base but is batting fifth, with Matt Adams bumped down to sixth. That group is going up against right-hander Jordan Lyles, who after going 5-7 with a 5.36 ERA for the Pirates has gone 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA in three starts for the Brewers.
