Game 137 lineups: Nats vs. Mets

At long last, the Nationals and Mets wrap up their five-game holiday weekend series, not to mention their 19-game season series, this afternoon. These two teams have been playing each other way too much lately. In fact, 11 of the Nats' last 25 games have come against the Mets. I think I speak for everyone who has had to cover or watch all these games when I say: Thank God.

Thumbnail image for Avila-Tags-Jankowski-Sidebar.jpgAs for today's finale, it's Patrick Corbin on the mound, trying desperately to put together a quality start and perhaps establish some positive momentum heading into the offseason. Interestingly enough, Corbin will be working with a familiar catcher for the first time in a long time: Alex Avila. With Keibert Ruiz dealing with a bone bruise after fouling a ball off his knee Saturday, and with Riley Adams having caught the last two days, Avila will be behind the plate for the first time in two months. Davey Martinez did say he wanted to do this regardless, hoping Avila's familiarity with Corbin might help. We'll see if it indeed does.

The rest of the Nationals lineup looks typical against righty Trevor Williams. Lane Thomas continues to shine out of the leadoff spot. And the Juan Soto-Josh Bell tandem is really producing these days.
