Left-hander Gio Gonzalez looks to improve on his outstanding start to the season - he's already 5-1 with a 2.91 ERA. Gonzalez beat the Mets 3-1 here April 22, 3-1. He went 6 1/3 innings, allowing only one run on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Mets counter with right-hander Robert Gsellman (5-3, 4.95 ERA). Gsellman is 1-0 with 0.77 ERA in two starts against the Nationals over 11 2/3 innings.
The Nationals will bat left fielder Brian Goodwin second, with right fielder Bryce Harper returning to his customary third spot in the lineup. Matt Wieters returns to the lineup and bats seventh.
Left-hander Matt Grace returns to the club to bolster an overused bullpen as right-hander Trevor Gott is optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse.
