Gausman could join Orioles in Detroit

With rain in the forecast for Friday afternoon's game against the Tigers at Comerica Park, the Orioles have scratched Kevin Gausman from tonight's start with Triple-A Norfolk and may send him to Detroit. A team official confirmed that knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa will start the Tides opener at Harbor Park. Major League Baseball allows teams to bring up one player for 24 hours as part of an expanded roster for doubleheaders scheduled the day after a postponement. The Orioles and Tigers would play two games on Saturday. Gausman may pitch out of the bullpen if he's summoned from the minors, rather than make a start. The Orioles optioned Gausman following last Saturday's exhibition game in Norfolk. He allowed three runs and struck out 13 in 11 spring innings. Miguel Gonzalez, Bud Norris and Chris Tillman are supposed to start the Detroit series. The Tigers are countering with Anibal Sanchez, Rick Porcello and Justin Verlander. Gonzalez is hopping on a 5 p.m. flight today. Gamboa is going to work out of Norfolk's bullpen with the exception of tonight's assignment. Tides outfielder Quintin Berry will fly to Boston on Friday to receive his 2013 World Series ring as part of the opening day ceremonies at Fenway Park. Nelson Cruz has homered in his first two games as an Oriole, the fifth player to accomplish the feat in franchise history, according to Elias. He joins Frank Robinson (1966), Rafael Palmeiro (1994), Pete Incaviglia (1996) and Sal Fasano (2005). Robinson is the only player to homer in his first three games as an Oriole. Chris Davis is the only Oriole to homer in four straight games to start a season.
