Gausman named Wednesday starter

So much for Kevin Gausman not working on short rest. The Orioles just announced that Gausman will start Wednesday afternoon's game against the Tigers at Camden Yards. No explanation given, no news on Wei-Yin Chen or Miguel Gonzalez. A corresponding roster move will be announced on Wednesday. GausmanBlackSidebar.jpgGausman threw a season-high 77 pitches in 4 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, allowing two hits, walking three and striking out six. It was his first appearance since going on the disabled list with pneumonia. The Orioles planned on extending Gausman's pitch limit to 90 before his illness. Chen could be pushed back to Thursday night's opener in Kansas City, with Gonzalez also being pushed back or moved to the bullpen. More to come later today. Gausman is 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA in six starts for Norfolk, with six earned runs and 23 hits in 26 innings. He's walked 14 and struck out 26. Gausman hasn't allowed a run in his last three starts over 14 1/3 innings, the first two coming before his DL stint. He hasn't worked more than five innings in any start this season. In his only career start against the Tigers, Gausman surrendered one run and five hits in six innings on June 2, 2013 at Camden Yards. Gausman's last appearance with the Orioles came in relief on Sept. 28, 2013, when he struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. His last start came on June 13 against the Red Sox at Camden Yards, when he allowed two runs and six hits and walked five over 5 1/3 innings. Gausman will oppose Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander on Wednesday.
