GCL All-Star team lists five Nationals

The Gulf Coast League announced its All-Star team Wednesday, and five Nationals were honored on the squad. The GCL Nats manager Patrick Anderson, Manager of the Year, led his team to a league-record 49 wins and the championship banner. The GCL Nats' .845 winning percentage is the best domestic winning percentage by a team in minor league history. The 1992 Dominican Summer League Blue Jays East team went 68-2 (.971) but lost in the playoffs. Third baseman Drew Ward hit .292 and was in the top 10 in the league in on-base percentage (.402), doubles (13), RBIs (28) and walks (25). Outfielder Rafael Bautista led the GCL with 44 runs and tied for league lead with 26 stolen bases. He had a second-best total of 65 hits and a .322 batting average, while his on-base percentage was .400. Right-handed pitcher Wander Suero led the league with eight victories and a 1.65 ERA, while holding opponents to a .156 batting average. He struck out 46 batters in 49 innings. Left-hander Hector Silvestre went 7-0 with a 1.82 ERA. He held batters to a .190 batting average against, and had 40 strikeouts in 49 1/3 frames.
