Herrera reinstated, Milone to DL (Nats win 10-4)

The Nationals have reinstated right-handed reliever Kelvin Herrera and placed left-hander Tommy Milone on the 10-day disabled list with left shoulder soreness.

Herrera-Red@NYM-sidebar.jpgHerrera was out since Aug. 8 with right rotator cuff impingement. He had allowed at least one run in three of his five appearances with the Nats before going on the disabled list.

He was off to a great start with the Royals before the trade, posting a 1-1 record with 14 saves and a 1.05 ERA. But with the Nats, he is 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 19 games, with just three saves.

The bullpen is desperate for him to perform well in this critical series with the Phillies, especially since closer Sean Doolittle appears to be out for an extended period of time with a toe injury.

With the trades of Daniel Murphy and Matt Adams earlier in the day, the Nats recalled infielder Adrian Sanchez and outfielder Andrew Stevenson from Triple-A Syracuse.

Update: Ryan Zimmerman doubled and went to third on a Matt Wieters fly out off of Vince Velasquez to begin the bottom of the second. Starting pitcher Tanner Roark lined a double to deep center field to score Zimmerman.

A rain delay began at 7:52 p.m., middle of the third. Nats lead the Phillies 1-0.

Update II: We have now been in the rain delay for over one hour and it is still coming down at a very good pace here at Nats Park. Mid-third, Nats up 1-0 over Phillies when the rains arrived.

Update III: Play resumed at 9:34 p.m. ET. The rain delay lasted one hour, 42 minutes.

Update IV: The Phillies reeled off four runs on four hits to take control of the game in the sixth. The first five batters reached base before an out was recorded. Matt Grace allowed a first career homer by Roman Quinn and later a run-scoring single from Asdrúbal Cabrera. Jimmy Cordero came in to relieve Grace and gave up an RBI single to Carlos Santana and an RBI groundout to Maikel Franco.

Mid-sixth, the Phillies lead the Nats 4-1.

Update V: The Nats quickly answered with five runs on six hits in the sixth, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Andrew Stevenson (a two-run shot) and Wilmer Difo. Bryce Harper's RBI double scored Trea Turner. Matt Wieters also had a run-scoring single in the inning.

After six frames, the Nats lead 6-4 over the Phillies.

Update VI: Zimmerman crushed a solo shot to left-center for his 11th homer of the season.

After seven innings, the Nats lead 7-4.

Update VII: Anthony Rendon hit an RBI double and Wieters a two-run single in the eighth. That's nine unanswered runs for the Nats.

After eight, the Nats lead 10-4.

Update VIII: Herrera, just hours after he was reinstated, came on and pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Nats defeated the Phillies 10-4. They employed seven relievers after Roark had to leave following three innings and a 102-minute rain delay.
