Instructional league wrap-up: Adon, Peguero, Tetreault, Raquet

The Nationals feel very good about a couple of young right-handed pitchers from the Dominican Republic who did a nice job at recent fall instructional league workouts.

Nationals pitching coordinator Paul Menhart singled out right-handers Joan Adon and Francys Peguero.

"Those are two guys that have shown some maturity and could definitely be in the mix for a full-season team next year," Menhart said.

Adon, 20, a reliever, spent time with Rookie-level Gulf Coast Nationals and short-season Single-A Auburn in 2018. He made his debut in 2017 with the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Nationals.

For the GCL Nats, Adon went 2.0 with a 2.29 ERA in 13 games. He had 29 strikeouts in just 19 2/3 innings. With the Doubledays, he tallied a 1-1 record with a 7.36 ERA in seven appearances with 11 strikeouts and nine walks in 11 innings.

Peguero, 23, a starting pitcher, obviously has a little more experience, having made his debut with the DSL Nats in 2015. He pitched into 2016, but missed 2017 due to Tommy John surgery recovery.

In 2018, Peguero started 13 games at Auburn, going 5-3 with a 2.93 ERA, striking out 46 and walking 14 in 67 2/3 frames.

Menhart had good news for right-hander Jackson Tetreault, 22, and left-hander Nick Raquet, 22, both of whom didn't play in games but worked out during instructional league and threw off flat ground.

"They were great. They were healthy," Menhart said. "They didn't pitch any games. They continued to work on their delivery and repeating it. They really worked their tails off, too, and taking advantage of this opportunity to work on it and go into the offseason knowing what they need to do once they start throwing off the mound come February."

Tetreault made 20 starts for low Single-A Hagerstown and four starts for high Single-A Potomac, combining to go 4-9 with a 4.07 ERA. He struck out 138 batters in 132 2/3 innings. His WHIP was 1.28. He was a seventh-round selection in 2017 out of State Junior College in Florida.

Raquet, who was mentioned for his leadership skills here earlier, was a third-round selection out of William & Mary in 2017. He went 9-9 in 24 starts with a 3.74 ERA for Hagerstown and Potomac. He struck out 92 batters in 122 2/3 innings. He also tossed four complete games.
