It's not all bad right now

From the O's good news department as they get set to begin a series in San Diego tonight, four of the young pitchers are throwing well right now. Brian Matusz, who starts on the mound tonight at Petco Park, and Jake Arrieta have pitched to a ERA of 2.70 over their last five combined starts. After going through a four-start stretch where his ERA was 9.50, Matusz has pitched to an ERA of just 2.66 over his last three starts and pitched a career-high eight innings in his last outing vs. the Mets. Arrieta, meanwhile, is the only O's starter to pick up a win over the last 20 games. Meanwhile, David Hernandez has really taken to pitching in late relief. He has given up just one earned run over 8 2/3 since moving to the bullpen. He is 1-0, 1.04 with two saves in relief. Jason Berken has given up just one earned run over his last 6 2/3. Berken has an ERA of 2.08 on the year, 11th best among AL relievers. Some other notes before the San Diego series: *The O's last win in a road series came last September 11-13 at New York.
