Juan Soto on disabled list with a right ankle injury

Nationals prospect Juan Soto went down with a right ankle injury in a game May 2. The right fielder injured the ankle sliding into home when he got tangled up with the catcher.

Soto, from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has been placed on the seven-day disabled list. Team officials say no timeline has been set for his return.

The highly-rated prospect is considered by a top international scouting director as the "best hitting prospect" he's ever seen. The 18-year-old Soto is batting .360 in 23 games for low Single-A Hagerstown.

He had 31 hits, five doubles, three homers, 15 runs and 14 RBIs to begin the season. Last season, he hit .368 in 51 games. Prior to the injury, Soto had connected on five hits in his past four games.
