Orioles pitcher Bud Norris is scheduled to start Friday night for Triple-A Norfolk. Norris went on the disabled list yesterday, retroactive to May 11, with bronchitis.
Norris is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 26. Asked whether the right-hander will go back into the rotation, manager Buck Showalter said that's the plan "all things being equal."
Catcher Matt Wieters will begin his injury rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Bowie after joining the Orioles this weekend in Miami. Wieters can come off the 60-day disabled list on June 4, and word is that he's a little ahead of second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who continues to perform baseball activities in Sarasota.
Infielder Everth Cabrera, at Norfolk on his injury rehab assignment, could come off the disabled list on Friday. Cabrera, on the disabled list with a bruised left foot, is out of minor league options.
Kevin Gausman made 25 throws from 60 feet today. He's scheduled to throw from 90 feet on Thursday and to throw batting practice Saturday in Miami. His right shoulder is responding well to the medication.
Reliever Wesley Wright, on the disabled list with a strained left trapezius, threw one inning today at extended spring training. He's scheduled to appear in a few more games.
Wright gave up a couple of hits to left-handed batters, but he felt good physically.
Chris Tillman said he expects to start Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Mariners. He played catch today to test his lower back.
Showalter said Tyler Wilson will be used out of the bullpen, though the Orioles continue to project him as a starter.
Asked about former Orioles outfielder Nelson Cruz, who's at Camden Yards with the Mariners, Showalter said, "We're very lucky he passed our way."
Showalter spoke to Cruz yesterday at Manny Machado's charity bowling event.
