Lee ready to play

SARASOTA, Fla. - It's become a running joke with first baseman Derrek Lee. Reporters approach him for another health or workout update, his eyes grow wide and he gets a look on his face that says "Really? Again?" Lee has been a good sport about it. He also looks forward to the day when the line of questioning centers on a key hit late in a game. That hit could come today, but it won't prevent the media from asking about his wrist. Lee is making his spring debut today, batting third again Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels. "It's good. Get some work before April 1. It's nice to get to play instead of practice all the time," he said. As for facing Hamel, Lee said, "It doesn't matter. I've just got to get out there and get some at-bats, get out there on defense, hopefully run the bases. Just get the feel back." Lee has been working out at first base every day. He simply needs to face live pitching in game situations. "Just getting in a game and seeing some pitches, getting some ground balls, running the bases. Just playing," he said. "It's March 19 and I haven't been out there yet, so it will be good to get my feet wet." Lee will get two or three at-bats before being replaced at first base. "I'm not going to necessarily be up there taking. Just get at-bats and get my work in."
